Ghana will today bid a final farewell to the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash in Sikaman-Brofroyedru, Adansi Akrofrom District, Ashanti Region.

The state funeral, to be held at the Black Star Square in Accra, will be attended by President John Dramani Mahama, government officials, members of the security services, traditional leaders, and the bereaved families.
The interdenominational service will be followed by the burial of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah at the Military Cemetery at Tse Addo.
The other two are Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, who were buried on August 10 in accordance with Islamic rites.
The eight officials died when a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed while on official duty, sparking calls for urgent investment in the country’s military aviation fleet.
Security will be tight at today’s ceremony, with portions of major roads in Accra closed to traffic to facilitate the funeral procession.
