Tension at Sofoline Bus Terminal as NDC Youth Attempt Forceful Takeover

Tension erupted at the Sofoline Bus Terminal in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, after suspected National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists attempted to forcibly take over the terminal.

The incident led to a heated exchange between the terminal’s management and the NDC youth, who claimed their party’s victory in the recent elections justified their actions.

The situation was diffused after the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Assibey, swiftly intervened to maintain peace and order.

Later, a team led by the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Captain Jabire, arrived at the scene to prevent further escalation.

Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Chairman, Mr. Patrick Boamah, condemned the youth’s actions as illegal and urged security agencies to investigate.

Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim, the chairman described the actions by the youth as unacceptable and emphasized that the management of the facility will do everything possible to protect their jobs.

Both parties have since been invited by the police for an amicable settlement, as the authorities work to resolve the matter peacefully.

The incident has highlighted the need for calm and respectful dialogue in resolving disputes, particularly in sensitive areas such as transportation hubs.
