Electrical Cables on Sofoline Interchange stolen, leaves project in darkness – Urban Roads Department

The Urban Roads Department in the Ashanti Region has sounded the alarm over the theft of electrical cables at the Sofoline Interchange, rendering the underpass paths redundant due to darkness.

According to the Acting Resident Engineer in charge of the project Francis Kofi Yankey, almost all cables have been stolen, taking the facility off the national grid.

Speaking to OTEC News, Mr. Yankey  revealed that the department suspects the thefts occur at night.

He noted  department has informed the police and contractors about the situation and is working with the contractor to restore lighting in the area, which Mr. Kofi believes will improve security for commuters.

The theft has raised concerns about safety in the area, with users afraid to use the facility due to the lack of lighting.

The Urban Roads Department is taking steps to address the issue and restore normalcy to the Sofoline Interchange.
