Kumasi: Parts of Sofoline Interchange Closed for Urgent Repairs Due to Weak Expansion Joints

The Department of Urban Roads in the Ashanti Region has closed the stretch of the Sofoline Interchange leading to Patasi to undertake urgent repairs due to weak expansion joints.
The closure comes after the department, during their routine inspections, discovered one of the ramps had weakened joints demanding urgent repairs.
The closure begins Wednesday September 3, 2025 and it’s expected to last for 15 days
According to Mr. Francis Kofi Yankey, the Acting Resident Engineer in charge of the Sofoline Interchange project, the ramp leading to the Santasi roundabout from the Sofoline Terminal has become weak and needs to be repaired to prevent potential dangers.
Mr. Yankey explained that the expansion joint on the stretch shakes alarmingly when vehicles pass over it, posing a significant threat to the safety of users.
To address this issue, the department has closed the stretch and commenced repairs, with the aim of completing the work within 15 days.
The closure is part of efforts to ensure the safety of road users and prevent potential accidents.
The repairs are expected to improve the overall condition of the road and provide a safe passage for drivers and passengers.
