Telecommunication giants MTN Ghana has awarded 500 scholarships to students and teachers for the 2025/26 academic year under its Bright Scholarship programme, reinforcing its commitment to education and national development.

The comprehensive package covers tuition, accommodation, stipends, and laptops.

Out of the total, 300 scholarships were awarded to students pursuing first degrees in STEM and vocational/technical courses, while 200 teachers furthering their studies in public universities also benefited.

The beneficiaries were selected from 3,691 applicants nationwide, with 1,200 shortlisted for interviews. In all, students from 42 public tertiary institutions were awarded, including 187 females, 313 males, and 33 persons with disabilities.
CEO’S Rep Remarks
Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Kumasi on September 8, 2025 General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Ghana, Dr. Isaac Mate, described the scholarship scheme as an investment in the dreams of young Ghanaians and the country’s future.
“This is not just about awarding scholarships, it’s about investing in dreams, unlocking potential, and securing Ghana’s future,” he said.
Dr Mate emphasized that education is the key driver of transformation and innovation, yet many young people are often held back by financial difficulties.
“That is why the MTN Ghana Foundation established the Bright Scholarship scheme to remove barriers and give brilliant students a fair chance to succeed,” he added.
Ashanti Regional Minister’s Remarks
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, encouraged beneficiaries of the MTN Bright Scholarship to take their studies seriously in order to make themselves, their families, MTN, and the nation proud.
He emphasized that pursuing higher education and obtaining various degrees may not always lead directly to a job in one’s field of study, but it opens doors to diverse opportunities and equips individuals with the skills needed to adapt and thrive in different areas.
Beneficiaries Gratitude
Some of the scholarship beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to MTN Ghana for believing in their potential and supporting their academic journey.
They noted that the scholarship would significantly reduce the financial burden on them and their families, allowing them to focus on their studies and work toward achieving their dreams.
