Transport unions protest over encroachment on CMB lorry station

Traders and transport unions in Accra’s CMB enclave have today, Tuesday, September 16, 2025, staged a protest against what they describe as an attempt by private developers to take over lands belonging to the lorry station.

The protest, led by groups including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Concerned Drivers Association, the Commercial Transport Operators, and the Container Owners Association, began at the Ridge Roundabout.

The demonstrators are marching to the Jubilee House, where they are expected to present a petition to the Presidency.
According to the unions, the alleged encroachment has displaced traders and drivers who rely on the station for their daily livelihoods.
They argue that the situation has forced many traders onto the streets, worsening traffic congestion and increasing safety risks in the area.
