Assemblies of God cautions pastors over GTEC’s list of unaccredited institutions

The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has issued a strong advisory to its pastors and members, warning them against enrolling in or using qualifications obtained from unaccredited tertiary institutions.
This follows a formal notice issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Monday, October 20, 2025, identifying 50 unrecognised tertiary institutions operating without proper accreditation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 21, and signed by the General Superintendent of the church, Rev. Stephen Y. Wengam, the Assemblies of God urged pastors to verify the accreditation status of any institution with GTEC before pursuing further studies.
“As part of efforts by the Executive Presbytery to rid the church environment of unaccredited degrees and qualifications, pastors are cautioned against enrolling in such institutions or using certificates obtained from them,” the statement read.
The church also emphasized that any qualifications earned from unaccredited institutions — including doctorates or professional certificates — would not be recognised within the Assemblies of God.
GTEC’s earlier statement, signed by its Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, explained that the listed institutions failed to meet the required accreditation and quality assurance standards, warning the public and heads of tertiary institutions against dealing with them.
The Assemblies of God leadership has, therefore, encouraged all pastors to exercise due diligence and uphold integrity in their pursuit of higher education.
