Atwima Mponua: Seven feared dead, 4 injured in galamsey pit collapse at Kasotie

A tragic incident has struck the Kasotie community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, where a galamsey (illegal mining) pit collapsed, and killing seven people.

According to reports, the incident happened around 6pm on Wednesday, where ten others also sustained various degrees of injuries.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mpasaaso Government Hospital.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the security services are on the scene, working around the clock to locate and rescue any other individuals who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
It is believed that the total people who embarked on the illegal expedition were fifteen.
The situation remains tense as families and residents gather, hoping for positive news about their missing loved ones.
As rescue operations continue the Kasotie community remains in shock and mourning.
