Daddy Lumba’s Funeral: High Court to sit on Widowhood Rites Case on October 28

A High Court in Kumasi has adjourned proceedings on a case filed by Akosua Serwaa, wife of the late Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, who is seeking recognition as the musician’s only surviving spouse and the sole person entitled to perform widowhood rites at his funeral.

This comes after the Court on Thursday October 16, 2025 met the two parties

The court adjourned the case to October 28, 2025, to allow the defendants, including Kofi Owusu Fosu, the head of Lumba’s external family, and Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni), who claims to be associated with the late musician, to respond to the suit.

Serwaa is asking the court to restrain Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as the surviving wife of Daddy Lumba and to stop the family from permitting anyone else to perform widowhood rites.

She claims that her marriage to Lumba was valid at the time of his death and that she is the only legally recognized spouse.

The court heard that the defendants had filed two motions, one challenging Serwaa’s legal capacity to bring the matter before the court and another motion to condition appearance.

The judge encouraged the parties to resolve the matter peacefully.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, and his family has announced that his final funeral rites will take place on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

However, the dispute over his spouse’s rights may delay the funeral plans
