Parliament reconvenes today

Members of Parliament are set to reconvene today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament.
The meeting, which marks the final parliamentary session for the year, is expected to feature the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in mid-November.
Two newly elected NDC legislators — Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia, and Professor Alidu Seidu, MP-elect for Tamale Central — will be sworn in during the session.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament is also expected to vet and consider the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.
In a renewed effort to curb illegal mining, government is expected to lay before the House a legislative instrument (L.I.) seeking to revoke L.I. 2462, which currently empowers the President to authorise mining in forest reserves.
Lawmakers will further deliberate on key national issues, including bills, motions, and policy statements from various government ministries and agencies.
