Hundreds of angry residents of Manso Nyankomase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region staged a massive demonstration to protest alleged brutalities by military personnel guarding a controversial land reclamation project in the area.

Clad in red and black, the residents marched through the streets chanting war songs and holding placards with messages such as “Stop the Military Brutalities,” “We Need Justice,” and “Our Lands Are Not for Sale.”

The protest staged on Thursday, October 16, 2025, was triggered by what the community described as persistent physical assaults and harassment by soldiers attached to a private company carrying out a reclamation exercise.

According to the residents, the company began operations without consulting local leaders, sparking confusion and tension in the area.

Attempts to question the company’s activities allegedly led to violent confrontations, resulting in injuries to five people who are currently receiving treatment.

During the protest, the residents submitted a petition to the Amansie South District Assembly through Mr. Augustine Sakyi, the Deputy Coordinating Director.

In the petition, they demanded a full investigation into the identity and mandate of the company, the role of the military, and an immediate withdrawal of both soldiers and company equipment from the land.

They issued a three-day ultimatum, threatening further protests if their demands are not met.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Mr. Isaac Nsiah, Unit Committee Chairman of Manso Nyankomase, called on the government to act swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating into chaos.

He urged the District Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Marfo, to expedite the issue to the President and national security agencies for urgent attention.

Receiving the petition, Mr. Sakyi assured the protestors that their concerns would be relayed to the appropriate authorities for action.
