Nkoko Nketenkete Launch: Ghana to produce 10m live birds

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced that the government is launching three major programs in the poultry industry aimed at producing 10 million live birds.

The initiatives are expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for the youth.

Under the Poultry Farm to Table Project, 50 anchor poultry farmers have been selected across the country.

Each farmer will receive 80,000 birds, housing, logistics, and technical support to ensure smooth production.

The selected farmers are expected to produce 4 million birds.

The President made this announcement while inaugurating the Backyard Poultry for Nutrition and Livelihood project, branded as “Nkoko Nketenkete”.

Under this initiative, the government will give out 50 pullets to 60,000 households across the country.

These households will receive poultry inputs, including feed for the pullets.

“Under this project, we are expecting the participants to produce three million birds,” President Mahama said.

“The Nkoko Nketenkete Project is designed to bring poultry production to the doorsteps of all while generating income for vulnerable households at the same time,” he added.

The third program is the Food System Resilience Program, where the government is supporting 500 small and medium-scale farmers with 3 million birds. The beneficiaries will receive logistics and technical support for their production.

The President officially inaugurated the Nkoko Nketenkete program, and the distribution of pullets has begun in the Ashanti Region.
