Ashanti South Police arrest four robbery suspects, thirteen illegal miners in separate operations

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has announced two major breakthroughs in its intensified campaign against violent crime and illegal mining in the region. The operations, conducted between December 8 and December 11, 2025, resulted in the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and thirteen illegal miners operating on the campus of the Akrokerri College of Education.
Addressing journalists at a press conference, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, said the successful operations demonstrate the Command’s renewed commitment to safeguarding communities and protecting the environment.
“These arrests show our unwavering resolve to clamp down on criminals whose activities threaten public safety and the environment,” DCOP Nyaaba stated.
“We will continue to pursue offenders relentlessly, no matter where they hide.”
Armed Robbery Incident at Ofoase Kokobeng
Narrating the first incident, DCOP Nyaaba explained that on December 8, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., complainant Aliu Mohammed of Anwiankwanta was attacked by six armed men, two of whom were masked and wielding assault rifles. The robbery occurred at Ofoase Kokobeng, right in front of the victim’s residence, shortly after he had arrived home from work in his Toyota Camry Spider with registration number GR 8009-15.
The armed men reportedly held him at gunpoint and escaped with 17 pounds of gold valued at GH₵200,000, an Infinix Hot 60 mobile phone worth GH₵3,000, GH₵490,000 cash, a pump-action gun, and the victim’s vehicle.
Police patrol teams swiftly responded and later found the abandoned Toyota Camry within the Ofoase Kokobeng township.
Intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of two suspects — Salifu Adamu alias Scorpion (25) and Abdul Latif alias Bullet (20) — on December 9, 2025, at the Tweapease Police checkpoint. A search on them revealed two live cartridges in the possession of Abdul Latif.
Further intelligence resulted in the arrest of two more suspects — Samed Abdulai (40) and Ali Mustapha (30) — on December 10, 2025, also at Tweapease. All four suspects are currently in lawful custody as investigations continue.
Thirteen Illegal Miners Arrested at Akrokerri College of Education
The Commander disclosed that another intelligence-driven operation on December 11, 2025, led to the arrest of thirteen illegal miners operating within the Akrokerri College of Education.
The suspects were arrested alongside four water pumping machines used in their illegal mining activities on the school’s premises.
Those arrested are:
Christopher Kabiobayo (25), Eric Owusu (27), Emmanuel Opoku Awuah (21), Mosea Terkpertey (29), Emmanuel Appiah Harrison (31), John Okrah (31), Shadrack Sarfo (23), Adu Desmond (26), Abdul Wahab (23), Elvis Abnee (33), Sarfo Shadrack (33), Nicholas Tetteh (30), and Darko Yaw (23).
All suspects remain in lawful custody and will be arraigned before court soon.
Police Caution to Criminals and Assurance to the Public
DCOP Nyaaba issued a stern warning to criminals operating within the region.
“Anyone engaging in criminal activities must stop immediately or prepare to face decisive police action,” he warned.
He also cautioned illegal miners to desist from practices that destroy the environment.
“We want to remind all those involved in galamsey that the full rigours of the law will be brought to bear on anyone arrested,” he stressed.
The Commander assured residents that the Police Service, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, remains dedicated to maintaining law and order.
“We are committed to protecting lives and property, but policing is a shared responsibility. We urge the public to continue providing credible information to support our operations,” he added.
