Mahama: 9.5% food inflation signals success of govt interventions

President John Dramani Mahama has said that government’s efforts to stabilise food prices are producing strong results, driven by deliberate policy interventions and improved management of the country’s food systems.

Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, the President noted that food inflation, which once stood at 28.3%, has seen a remarkable decline.

“Food inflation stood at 28.3%. Through targeted interventions and careful management of food systems, I am pleased to report that food inflation has decreased significantly to 9.5% by October 2025. This is a notable improvement from the 22.8% recorded at exactly the same time last year,” he stated.

He attributed the achievement to deliberate and well-targeted measures, including the procurement and distribution of 50,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 3,000 metric tonnes of hybrid maize and rice seeds to farmers and national institutions, such as the National Service Authority, churches, the Prison Service, and secondary and tertiary institutions.

President Mahama added that these investments have boosted production, strengthened local food supply, and eased pressure on market prices, contributing to the country’s broader food security agenda.
