Kumasi: Fire destroys over 100 vehicles, dozens of shops at Sofoline

A devastating fire has swept through a cluster of mechanic shops at Sofoline in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying over 100 vehicles and dozens of shops.

 The inferno, which broke out around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, has caused extensive damage to property and livelihoods.

The blaze razed more than 100 vehicles, numerous engines, and large quantities of upholstery materials, leaving shop owners and workers counting heavy losses.

The cause of the fire officially remains unknown, but some artisans are attributing it to someone who was burning refuse in the area.

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amaakohene has expressed worry over the disaster, urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders.

 “I have been informed of a fire incident this evening at Sofoline. The Ghana National Fire Service, supported by other security agencies, is currently on the ground working diligently to bring the situation under control,” he said.

Dr. Amaakohene has also advised citizens to follow all safety instructions and avoid the immediate area to prevent any further risk.

 He has encouraged everyone to take fire prevention seriously, especially during the dry season.

The Ghana National Fire Service is yet to officially confirm the cause of the fire, but investigations are ongoing.

The incident has left many shop owners and workers facing significant losses.
