Taxi driver killed in Wenchi-Wa-Highway crash

A 36-year-old taxi driver, Robert Atta Ernest, has lost his life in a tragic accident on the Wenchi-Wa highway.

 The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026, when a Kia Rhino truck’s bucket, fully loaded with wood, fell onto the taxi cab.

According to Divisional Officer 2 (DO2) Mr. Eric Boateng, Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, the accident was reported by Sergeant Daniel Sarfo of the MTTD of the Ghana Police Service at about 1:20 a-m.

 The fire service team found the Kia Rhino’s bucket on top of the Matiz Daewoo taxi cab, resulting in the driver’s instant death.

The driver of the Kia Rhino is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

 The cause of the accident remains unknown, DO2 Mr. Boateng stated.
