Forestry Commission engages stakeholders on wildlife resource management Act

The Forestry Commission, under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has held a consultative workshop on the Wildlife Resource Management Act 2023 (Act 1115) for stakeholders from five regions.

The workshop, held in Kumasi on Thursday, February 19, 2026, brought together traders, food vendors, technocrats, NGOs, lawyers, journalists, and other stakeholders to discuss the draft bill.

Speaking to OTEC news, Technical Director of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Joseph Osiakwan, said the Ministry has developed a legislative instrument to operationalize the Act.

He explained that the instrument will consolidate all wildlife laws, make sanctions more punitive, and incorporate emerging issues and global trends to provide a modern framework for the sector.

“The legislative instrument will make it easier for the Forestry Commission to manage wildlife resources,” Mr. Osiakwan said.

He emphasized that the Commission will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive bill is crafted for the sector.

The workshop aimed to review the draft legislative instrument that will operationalize the Act.
