Gender advocate urges support for women in Russian leaked sex tape scandal

Mrs Janet Adu-Poku, Gender advocate

Gender advocate Mrs Janet Adu-Poku has called for urgent psychological support for Ghanaian women allegedly captured in leaked intimate videos involving a Russian national.

The videos, which have circulated widely on social media, reportedly show encounters filmed secretly in the man’s apartment.

Mrs Janeet Adu-Poku, who is the CEO of Wise Up Consult, described the development as “unfortunate” and warned that the emotional toll on the women could be devastating.

Her comments follow reports that the Russian man allegedly used a pair of sunglasses fitted with a hidden camera to record the encounters without the women’s knowledge.

The footage was later shared online, sparking public outrage and widespread debate.

The incident has raised concerns about privacy violations and the vulnerability of women in relationships involving foreign nationals.

Speaking on Otec FM’s morning show Nyansapo, hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng on Monday, February 16, 2026, Mrs Adu-Poku cautioned that the psychological impact of the leaked tapes could be severe.

“The effects on these women can be overwhelming. In some cases, it can lead to depression, trauma, and even suicidal thoughts if they do not receive immediate emotional support,” she stated.

She urged families of the affected women to respond with empathy rather than condemnation.

According to her, the stigma attached to such incidents often extends beyond the individuals involved and affects entire families.

“This is the time for relatives to draw closer to them, not push them away. Handling the matter carefully can prevent further tragedy,” she advised.

Mrs Adu-Poku also appealed directly to the alleged victims to remain calm and seek help from trusted relatives and professional counsellors.

She stressed that similar incidents have occurred in other parts of the world and that recovery is possible.

“They must avoid harming themselves. Life is bigger than this moment,” she said.

In a broader caution to women, the CEO advised vigilance in relationships, particularly where material gifts and financial promises are involved.

Mrs Adu-Poku noted that being swayed by money and luxury can sometimes lead to compromising situations.

“Young women must be careful how they relate to men who approach them with love and material offers. Some of these situations end in shame and distress,” she cautioned.
