Gov’t approves bold plan to clear nurses’ salary arrears

The Ministry of Health has announced a decisive and structured payment plan to settle salary arrears owed to nurses and midwives posted in the 2024/2025 service year.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said the payment arrangement was approved after extensive engagements with the Ministry of Finance, paving the way for outstanding arrears to be cleared between April and July 2026.
The Ministry explained that the phased approach reflects the government’s commitment to settling all outstanding obligations responsibly and sustainably.
The Ministry praised nurses and midwives nationwide for their patience, professionalism, and dedication, despite prolonged delays in remuneration.
It also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the matter and ensuring swift approval of the payment plan.
According to the statement, the government remains resolute in safeguarding the welfare, motivation, and well-being of all health workers across the country.
