Police arrest suspect, seize suspected narcotic-laced ‘sobolo’ in Ashanti Region

The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old suspect, Adjei Owusu Afryie, and seized suspected narcotic-laced substances at Akyeremade in the Atwima Kwawoma District.

According to the police, the operation was conducted on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at about 8:30 am, at a pub known as “De-Vicky’s”.

 The seized items include seven barrels and 56 bottles of locally manufactured dry gin (akpeteshie), one barrel and one gallon of sobolo.

“We wish to assure the general public of our continued commitment to combating drug-elated offences and safeguarding public health and safety,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the seized items have been secured for forensic examination.

 Further investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the prohibited business and to identify any accomplices.
