World Radio Day: Kumasi residents lose love for radio over politicization of development issues

Some Ghanaians in Kumasi’s Ashanti region have revealed that the over-politicization of development issues has discouraged them from tuning into radio.

They expressed dissatisfaction with how radio owners, hosts, and stakeholders use the platform to politicize national issues, turning them off.

OTEC FM’s street survey revealed these concerns as the world marks World Radio Day (February 13).

UNESCO proclaimed this international observance in 2011, and the UN General Assembly adopted it in 2012 to honor broadcasters’ vital role in informing and connecting societies.

While radio has significant societal benefits, many believe reducing partisan politics on airwaves is crucial to winning back listeners.
