A/R: 19-Year-Old pregnant woman shot during funeral at Hiawu-Besiase
A 19-year-old pregnant woman has been shot during a funeral ceremony at Hiawu-Besiase in the Atwima South Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday during the burial rites of a queen mother in the community.
The victim has been identified as Serwaa Alice.
In an exclusive interview with OTEC News reporter Solomon Nimo on Friday, March 13, 2026, an eyewitness recounted that residents were in their homes when they suddenly heard a gunshot.
They rushed outside only to be informed by a relative that Serwaa Alice had been hit by a stray bullet.
She was immediately rushed to a nearby CHPS compound where health workers attended to her before referring her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where doctors are preparing to perform surgery to remove her unborn baby who reportedly died from the gunshot injury.
The family is appealing to authorities to assist them in addressing the situation.
