Ashanti Region: Police arrest three suspects involved in the murder of Kusasi Chief at Asawase, one on the run
Police in Ashanti South have arrested three suspects in the July 2025 murder of the Kusasi Chief in Asawasi.
The suspects are Jamil Usman (Babamu/Guru), Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashiadu Sumbeida (Eyeshadow).
Chief Abdul-Malik Azenbe was shot and killed on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, outside his residence near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre in Kumasi.
Witnesses reported that two men on a motorbike approached the chief’s home around 8:40 PM, with one assailant using an AK-47 rifle to open fire.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation.
He added that they are being transferred to the command for further investigations.
Police also declared a fourth key suspect, identified as Illiasu (alias Abodam), as being at large and have appealed to the public for information leading to his arrest.
