Boy, 27, dies after drowning in Lake Bosomtwe

A 27-year-old male, identified as City boy, has drowned in Lake Bosomtwe after he failed to swim at a point in the middle of the lake

The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, when the deceased and his friends went to have their usual fun at Lake Abono in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region

According to an account by one of his folk, the deceased who was very drunk drowned in his attempt to swim in the biggest natural lake in West Africa in the quest to win a bottle of Alomo bitters

Eye witnesses say though the deceased had succeeded in the first attempt earlier, he drowned on the second attempt, a development that people who were around

One of the friends who is a non-swimmer, after a few minutes, realized that his friend [the deceased] was seen gasping in the water for survival.

He then called for help. Some fisher folks who were around offered their support, but it was too late to save City boy

He was pulled from the water and taken to a clinic at Abono and was later transferred to a hospital in Kontenas, where he was confirmed dead

The body has been deposited at a morgue in Kontenase

Police have since begun an investigation into the incident
