Illegal waste dumping: KMA to arrest, prosecute offenders

The move is aimed at curbing the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roundabouts, road medians, and streets issue authorities say continues to make the central business district and surrounding areas unhealthy, while increasing the cost of sanitation management.

The Mayor further encouraged the public to support the initiative by reporting offenders to the nearest police station. He added that informants whose reports lead to successful prosecution will receive half of the fine imposed on offenders.

As part of measures to improve sanitation, the Assembly will position thirty 1,000-litre dustbins at strategic locations across the city of which residents are expected to use these bins for proper waste disposal.

He also appealed to traders, particularly market women operating along pavements, to cooperate with authorities to ensure the success of the exercise.

The Assembly believes the enforcement of these measures will significantly improve sanitation and promote a cleaner, healthier Kumasi.
