Suame NDC women’s wing reports MCE to Mahama over nepotism, neglect

Members of the women’s wing of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suame Constituency of the Ashanti Region have accused the Municipal Chief Executive of nepotism, abuse of office and poor leadership, warning that his actions are deepening divisions and undermining support for the party in the area.

The group, led by Constituency Women’s Organiser Asmawu Bello, popularly known as “Empress,” made the allegations at a press conference on Thursday, saying they were “in distress” over what they described as the MCE’s conduct.

Allegations

They accused the MCE, Frank Owusu Ansah, of converting school lands into commercial stores and dismissing concerns raised by party executives and women’s leaders.

“When we confronted him about this illegality, he said he is the MCE and that he is settling his debt,” the group claimed.

The women’s wing said the situation had created resentment within the constituency and was contributing to growing apathy among party supporters.

Gross disrespect

They also alleged that the MCE had sidelined constituency executives in decision-making and appointed his own preferred officials at the municipal assembly.

The group further accused the MCE of favouring opposition sympathisers in the awarding of contracts and failing to create employment opportunities for party members.

“He has brought division among constituents and there is growing apathy,” one speaker said. “We have become a laughing stock.”

“He has been awarding contracts to NPP people and this is affecting us,” they said, referring to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

Apathy

They said frustration within the party base had led to declining participation in branch activities, citing a lack of jobs and perceived neglect.

“Nobody even attends branch meetings because they have not been offered jobs,” the group said. “We are now orphans whose party is in power.”

The women’s wing appealed for intervention from President John Dramani Mahama, saying they felt ignored and marginalised despite the party being in power.

“We are pleading with President Mahama to intervene because we are angry, we are in distress,” they said.
