Kumasi: Faulty trailer crashes into a container at Ash-Town
A DAF vehicle with registration number AS 5841-24, loaded with goods, has rammed into a container used as a food joint at Ash-Town in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, causing extensive damage to it.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, 2024, around 12:00 in the afternoon
No casualty was recorded, according to information obtained from eyewitnesses by OTEC NEWS.
The DAF driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle after the roof panels of the vehicle broke, thereby moving from the main road leading to Nana Buabase junction.
According to eyewitnesses, Samuel Kojo Kyeremateng, the driver who was coming from the Manhyia area, was heading towards Ash-Town to offload the goods when the incident occurred.
The driver reportedly failed to control the vehicle on the hilly road at Ash-Town(Nana Buabasa Junction) and drove towards the direction of a Blue colored Toyota Metrix with registration number GS 6160-11, pulling down a container before ramming into the MTN pole in the area.
“We saw a DAF vehicle from Nana Buabasa Junction with the roof panels broken. My uncle was in a KIA vehicle, which nearly got crashed. The trailer later hit one Elantra and a Toyota Metrix and later rammed into the container, “male eyewitnesses told OTEC NEWS
He further explained that the truck crashed into the container seconds after a food seller with two children left the container
He commended the driver for his bravery, adding that if he had not made noise to alert some passersby, many lives would have been lost
When OTEC NEWS visited the accident scene, the vehicle was still stuck in the container, and the driver was unharmed
The Assembly member for the area Mr James Owusu Boakye, who was also at the scene, said he immediately called the Police and MTTD to respond to the situation
He disclosed that he also called the Manhyia Fire Service to respond, citing that one of the vehicles involved in the accident was leaking and the same vehicle had a gas cylinder, which he thought could cause a fire outbreak
