Ashanti Region: One arrested amidst tension at Council of State Elections
A clash between some youth suspected to be sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Police Anti-Robbery personnel has resulted in the arrest of one individual at the Council of State Elections in the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, the youth failed to comply with instructions from security personnel deployed to protect the polls, leading to the confrontation.
The suspect, who has not been identified, has been taken into police custody.
The situation has created tension at the election grounds, with more youth protesting the arrest.
To ensure the safety and security of the electoral process, massive security personnel have been deployed to the new venue, Prempeh Assembly Hall, following a change in the original location.
Dozens of armed Police Anti-Robbery personnel and hundreds of other armed police officers have been stationed at the hall.
This development comes after chaos disrupted the initial elections, which saw some media personnel caught in the melee.
