Concern Clergy Petitons President to Crack Down on Unlawful Strike Actions

The National Association of Concern Clergy (NACOC) has petitioned the President of Ghana, urging him to take decisive action against associations that embark on strike actions without exhausting peaceful and lawful avenues for negotiation.
In a letter signed by the Secretary General, Rev. Kwame Sefa Frimpong, the association expressed deep concern about the recurring wave of strike actions in essential sectors such as health and education.
The clergy group in their petition on Tuesday June 10,2025,noted that while workers’ rights must be protected, the national interest must take precedence.
They argued that strikes that affect public health, education, and other critical services should not be tolerated without serious accountability.
The NACOC has proposed several measures to address the issue, including enforcing harsher legal consequences for associations that initiate strike actions without proper legal and procedural compliance.
They also proposed dissolving or suspending the licenses of associations that repeatedly engage in strikes that jeopardize lives and national security, urging government to strengthening dialogue platforms to prevent the need for strike actions in the first place.
The association also suggested the revocation and termination of appointments of association leaders who lead such actions.
According to the NACOC, this petition is not intended to disregard the concerns of workers but to promote responsible and nation-first conduct from all organized bodies.
The group commended the President for his leadership and commitment to the peace and development of the nation, expressing hope that he would take their proposals seriously.
