Telcos kick off major data increases to ease cost burden

Telecommunication firms in Ghana have begun rolling out increased data allocations in response to a government directive aimed at easing internet costs.

From Tuesday, MTN, Telecel, and AT revised their data bundle packages, boosting volumes by 10 to 15 percent.

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation said the move addresses public concerns over the high cost of internet access.

Under the changes, MTN reintroduced its GHC399 bundle, now offering 214GB—up from 92.88GB.

Telecel raised its GHC400 plan to 250GB, a significant jump from 90GB. AT’s GHC400 package now delivers 236GB, up from 195GB.

Communications Minister Sam George has tasked the National Communications Authority with ensuring compliance, warning telcos that failure to implement the directive will attract sanctions.
