Water crisis grips Apatrapa New Site as residents demand urgent action

Residents of Apatrapa New Site in the Kwadaso Municipality are grappling with a worsening water shortage that has disrupted daily life and increased the cost of living in the community.
The taps, according to residents, have not flowed for the past two months, forcing households, food vendors, and small businesses to rely on private water suppliers at exorbitant prices.
“It’s been two months since the taps stopped flowing, yet we continue to receive monthly water bills,” one frustrated resident told OTEC FM’s Elizabeth Gyamfuaa Fosu (Akosuah Sundae).
The crisis, they say, is also taking a toll on hygiene and sanitation. Some households have resorted to rationing water for essential activities such as bathing and cooking, raising fears of potential health risks.
Despite several complaints lodged with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the local Assembly Member, residents allege that their concerns have been ignored.
Community members are now urging authorities to take immediate steps to restore regular water supply and put in place a sustainable solution to prevent a recurrence.
“The situation is unbearable, and if nothing is done soon, it will bring further hardship to families already struggling to make ends meet,” another resident warned.
