Volta Lake tragedy: Vice President to visit bereaved families

The Oti Regional Minister, Gyapong Kodzo, has said that Vice President Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang will on Tuesday, October 14, visit the bereaved families of the recent Volta Lake boat disaster.

Speaking on The Pulse, Mr Kudzo said the Vice President’s visit aims to commiserate with the affected families and assess the situation firsthand following the tragic incident that occurred over the weekend at Kete Krachi.

“Her Excellency, the Vice President of Ghana, will want to visit the bereaved families tomorrow at the site, and we are preparing to meet her tomorrow to send her to the bereaved families in Okuma,” he disclosed.

The minister noted that the disaster, which claimed fifteen lives, has deeply affected the local community, adding that government agencies are working closely with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide the needed support.

Following the tragedy, a joint team of maritime inspectors and officers from the Ghana Navy has been deployed to Kete Krachi to assist the Police and other agencies in investigating the tragic boat accident that claimed 15 lives, including 11 children.

According to the Oti Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Foster Dzre, an 11-year-old boy was the one controlling the boat before the accident. He also died.

The incident claimed the lives of 15 people, including 11 children, with one person still missing.
