Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly engages stakeholders on proposed 2026 taxes and rates

A stakeholders meeting has been held at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly to deliberate on proposed tax charges, rates, and licenses for the 2026 fiscal year.

The meeting brought together business owners, traders, and community leaders to review and provide input on the proposed tax adjustments before their implementation.

Addressing participants, the Municipal Budget Analyst, Mr. Evans Mensah Bonsu, said the proposed fees were necessary to sustain the Assembly’s developmental agenda and improve service delivery within the municipality.

During the meeting held on Monday, November 10, 2025, he explained that the Assembly relies heavily on internally generated funds to undertake infrastructure projects and community development initiatives.

Mr. Mensah Bonsu assured business owners that the new tax regime was not intended to overburden them but to strengthen the Assembly’s capacity to provide essential amenities.

“The new tax charges are not meant to burden businesses, but to ensure we provide the necessary infrastructure and services to support growth and development,” he emphasized, noting that the rates were designed to reflect fairness and affordability.

The proposed fees, which are expected to take effect on January 1, 2026, include reviewed charges on business operating permits, market stalls, and other commercial activities.

The Assembly hopes that the adjustments will enhance revenue mobilization and reduce dependence on central government allocations.

In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassan, reminded residents and business operators of their civic duty to pay taxes, describing it as a shared responsibility in local development.

He stressed that tax revenues were properly accounted for and used to improve roads, sanitation, and social services within the municipality.

Hon. Alhassan urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the Assembly in the implementation of the new rates, assuring them that their inputs from the meeting would be considered in finalizing the 2026 tax schedule.

He commended the participants for their engagement and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all revenue-related activities.
