Christian Council calls on Mahama to revive National Cathedral project

The Christian Council of Ghana has called on President John Dramani Mahama to renew the government’s commitment to completing the National Cathedral, even as the country faces significant economic challenges.

The Council, during a courtesy visit to the Jubilee house on Tuesday, November 18, acknowledged the difficult economic climate but insisted that the cathedral, if completed under a transparent framework, would stand as an enduring spiritual and cultural landmark.

Vice Chairman of the Council, Rev. Enoch Thompson, indicated; ‘’While we are aware of the prevailing economic difficulties, we believe that the cathedral’s completion, under a transparent, accountable, and inclusive framework, would serve as a spiritual and cultural landmark for generations to come.”

The delegation outlined three recommendations to the President: that the government restates its commitment to the project and ensure its continuation; that a broad-based funding structure involving churches, the private sector and international partners be developed to reduce pressure on the state; and that the cathedral be firmly positioned as a national, interdenominational project meant to foster unity among Ghanaians.

The Council expressed hope that with renewed attention and improved oversight, the stalled project could regain public confidence and move closer to completion
