A/R: Okada rider jailed 10 years for defiling 5-year-old boy in Bekwai

The Bekwai Circuit Court presided over by Honour Isaac Appietu has sentenced a 23-year-old commercial motorbike rider (Okada Rider), Baffour Kwakye, to 10 years imprisonment for defiling a five-year-old boy at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
Kwakye was charged with defilement of a child under 16, an offence under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act.
He initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty after the trial commenced.
The facts of the case presented in court by prosecution – Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, were that,the victim — a Class One pupil lived in the same neighbourhood as the accused.
On May 6, 2025 at about 1:00pm, the accused lured the child into his room after sending him on errand to buy one sachet water.
He convinced the victim to lay by him on the bed so they watch funny movies on his phone. After a while, the accused person removed the victim’s trousers and forcefully had sexual intercourse with him through the anus.
The victim who couldn’t bare the excruciating pains screamed for help but no body heard him out for rescue.
The child later reported the incident to his mother, Akosua Kisiwaa, who filed a complaint at the Manso Nkwanta Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
A medical examination subsequently confirmed the abuse. Kwakye was later arrested on July 20, 2025, at Manso Nkran in connection with stealing case.
Police there were informed of the pending defilement complaint and handed him over to the Manso Nkwanta authorities.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement. After the trial, he was sentenced to 120 months in prison.
