Jacobu shooting: Minister calls for calm, urges citizens to cooperate with police

The Ashanti Region Minister , Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement officers following a confrontation between suspected illegal miners and police at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District.
The incident, which resulted in one death and several injuries, has sparked concern.
Dr. Amoakohene described it as “unfortunate and avoidable” and has urged citizens to respect lawful orders.
“Citizens should under no circumstances confront the police or engage in actions that threaten public safety,” he said in a statement.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and sympathise with all persons affected by this incident.”
Dr. Amoakohene commended the Ghana Police Service for their efforts in maintaining law and order, saying, “Government remains fully committed to supporting the Police and all security agencies in the execution of their lawful duties to protect lives, property, and public peace.”
Investigations are ongoing, and those found to have acted unlawfully will face the law. Community leaders and stakeholders have been urged to support efforts to restore calm.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and I wish them a speedy recovery,” Dr. Amoakohene said.
