Let’s de-politicize fuel prices – Collins Adomako Mensah barks at ghanaian politicians

A former Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. Collins Adomako Mensah has stated that it was time the issue of politicizing fuel pricing was stopped by the Ghanaian politician since the variables for the increment has no absolute local influence.
According to him, the ruling NDC in opposition during the last elections took advantage of the fuel commodity to the extent they bastardise the Nana Addo government to create an impression that the then Nana Addo government was the cause of the cost of the fuel prices.
Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have started increasing pump prices ahead of the scheduled April 1, 2026, adjustments under the Price Deregulation Policy.
One of the biggest players in the industry, GOIL, announced in a social media post that petrol has increased from GH¢12.24 to GH¢13.30 per litre, while diesel has risen from GH¢15.69 to GH¢17.10 per litre.
The company said the increase is influenced by the new price floor announced by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on March 30, 2026, even though the official adjustment window is April 1–15, 2026.
It remains unclear how other major OMCs will adjust their prices in response. Some had argued that prices could have been kept lower if not for the strict enforcement of the NPA’s price floor.
But speaking to the OWIATV NEWS Hon. Collins Adomako Mensah, who is the ranking member of Energy in Parliament, said though the John Mahama administration could not be blamed for the rising cost of the fuel due to the war in the middle east, the NDC took advantage of the during the early days in 2025 crediting himself that the stabilized economy weas due to the prudent management of the government.
He has therefore urged the Ghanaian politician to desist from politicizing virtually every issue since the issue would come back to haunt them when the international factors cause mess to the economy.
