The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, and the Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, on Friday, April 10, 2026, paid a joint courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to brief him on the proposed 198.7-kilometre Accra–Kumasi Expressway Project.

During the meeting, the Asantehene was informed about plans to involve the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the initial phase of the project to help enhance its feasibility.

The delegation also included the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; the Director of Engineering Services at GAF, Colonel Jonas Wiafe; and Deputy Minister for Roads, Alhassan Suhuyini.

The team was led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

The project, which involves the construction of a new six-lane dual carriageway, aims to improve connectivity between the nation’s two largest cities—Accra and Kumasi.

The expressway is expected to reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and stimulate economic activity along the corridor.
