USTED Ends International Conference on Education and Humanities, calls for more TVET investment to drive sustainable development

The University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, USTED, at Tanoso in the Ashanti Region has ended its three-day International Conference on Education and Humanities with a strong appeal for increased investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET.
The conference, which climaxed on Friday at the USTED Auditorium, brought together academics, journalists, and political figures to discuss effective communication and quality human development for sustainable growth.

Resource persons included Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Journalists Association Mr. Kofi Adu Domfe, Anthropologist Dr. Thomas Agyarko Opoku, Politician Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, and renowned journalist Dr. Kwame Adinkrah.

Speaking at the closing session, Lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Communication Sciences, Dr. Samuel Adu-Sei Poku, raised concerns over poor funding for TVET institutions across the country.
“Many TVET institutions lack the needed equipment and logistics to provide practical skills training for students. This situation affects efforts towards national development and job creation,” Dr. Adu-Sei Poku said.

He called on government, corporate organizations, and individuals to prioritize TVET funding to equip the youth with employable skills.
“Government, corporate organizations, and individuals must invest more in TVET education to help equip the youth with employable skills for sustainable economic growth and development,” he added.
The conference formed part of USTED’s mandate to promote skills training and entrepreneurship as key drivers of Ghana’s development agenda.
