TUSAAG suspends strike after renewed talks with gov’t

The Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has temporarily suspended its ongoing industrial action following renewed engagements with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders.

The suspension takes immediate effect, with members of the association expected to resume their normal duties while discussions on the outstanding issues continue.

TUSAAG embarked on the strike over the government’s failure to pay a promised one-time research allowance and fully implement a negotiated interim allowance agreement.

In a joint statement issued with the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), TUSAAG said the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Vice Chancellors Ghana and Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities Ghana had committed to renewed and time-bound discussions aimed at resolving the outstanding issues.

The association has consequently directed its members across the affected technical universities to return to work while the negotiations continue.

However, TUSAAG stressed that the suspension is temporary and conditional on demonstrable progress towards resolving the issues that triggered the strike.

The association warned that it reserves the right to resume the industrial action without further notice if the engagements, particularly with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), fail to produce satisfactory outcomes within a reasonable and agreed timeframe.

TUSAAG said the decision to suspend the strike was taken in good faith and in the spirit of social dialogue, giving the renewed negotiations an opportunity to produce a lasting resolution.

The association thanked its members for their solidarity and discipline throughout the industrial action and expressed appreciation to the general public for its patience and understanding.
