Shortage of LPG is set to hit the nation by next week if government fails to avert a possible strike by the Association of LPG retailers to be declared on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
The Association’s intended move is to protest government’s decision to implement the Cylinder Recirculation model, claiming all indigenous LPG retailers would collapse if government implements the new policy.
The President of the LPG Retailers Association, Togbe Adaku V, has said the group has been left with no option than to declare the strike because government has treated them with contempt by ignoring their ultimatum to rescind its decision.
He told NEWSMEN that government’s move is a deliberate attempt to collapse their businesses and deprive them of their livelihood.
“Sure, the move is intended to collapse our business so they can give it to their cronies and their footsoldiers whom they’ve promised jobs, that we’ll not accept. I’ve been in meetings with policy makers including the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mohammed Amin Adam who asked me not to speak, is that fair?
President Nana Akufo-Addo in the wake of the massive explosion at an LPG filling station at Atomic Junction ordered the implementation of the Cylinder Re-circulation Model of LPG distribution.
Over a hundred lives were lost in that explosion.
