2 Kidnapped Canadian girls: Five Ghanaians, three Nigerians arrested – Information Minister

Eight suspects have so far been arrested for the kidnapping of the two Canadian ladies, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has officially announced.
The women, who went missing a few days ago, were found in the early hours of Wednesday June 12, 2018 at Kanyasi in Kumasi.
Recounting how the operation went, the Minister stated that intelligence gathering efforts led the team to the hiding place of the suspects.
However, there were a series of gunshot exchanges between the suspects and the security team.
One suspect sustained minor injuries as a result of the shootout.
In all, the rescuing exercise took 25 minutes.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah maintained that “no foreign assets were involved in the operation” despite rumours that government and the police received satellite information from the Canadian government.
He disclosed that the victims are currently in Accra and undergoing evaluations at the Canadian Embassy.
Otecfmghana.com exclusively reported that the two Canadians who were kidnapped last week have been rescued in Kumasi by a police SWAT team.
The Canadians have been transported to Accra, while 10 individuals are being held over the crime.
Lauren Patricia Catherine Tilley, 19, and Bailey Jordan Chitly, 20, were rescued last night in Sawaba, a suburb of Kumasi.
A statement released by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Wednesday morning revealed that the rescue operation was carried out by National Security Operatives in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
