SNV Ghana opens 2022 edition of the GrEEn Regional Trade Show in Kumasi
The SNV Ghana on Tuesday opened the 2022 edition of the Green Regional Trade Show in the Ashanti Region.
The Green Regional Trade Show will showcase the products, services and inventions of the green businesses in the Ashanti Region and it is expected to end on Sunday October 2, 2022.
Held at the Kumasi City Mall, the Regional Trade Show brought together stakeholders including government agencies and departments, businesses, and about hundred small scale businesses who were trained and natured by SNV Green Ghana Project.
Hundreds of locally manufactured products ranging from food, furniture, beverages, clothing Agriculture inputs, solar panels were displayed at the show.
Country Director’s Remark
The Country Director for SNV Ghana, Lauoali Sadda, in an interview with OTEC News Kwame Agyenim, on the sidelines of the even said the objective was to create enabling environment that support self-employed youth and SMEs in the green business.
He pledged SNV’s continuous support to the youth adding that the organization with partner and create more job opportunities within the framework of the GrEEn Project
For his part, Skills Development Officer for SNV Ghana, Frederick Aquah expressed satisfaction over the turn out at the event.
“We have about 60 SMEs who are in the green businesses representing here, and all these businesses were trained and natured by SNV GrEEn Project”
“This proves a point that the project has chalk more success that we expected. This is the first day, and we are expecting hundreds of these SMEs in the ensuing days so that together we can promote environmental friendly products and services”. He said
Trade Ministry’s Commendation
The Ministry of Trade and Industries who were part of the even commended SNV Ghana for their immense contribution to the country’s quest to create environmental friendly jobs
Head of the Ministry in the Ashanti Region, Osman Mamuda lauded SNV for putting together the GrEEn Trade Show which is serving as a huge platform for showcasing unique made in Ghana products and services.
He pledged government’s commitment to providing the needed suport to amplify the good works of SNV Ghana while promoting and expanding local businesses at the same time.
About SNV GrEEn Project
The Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) project is a four-year action from the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
The project aims at creating greater economic and employment opportunities for youth, women and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable, green businesses and providing employable skills training to youth job seekers in two selected regions in Ghana: Ashanti and Western in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development.
GrEEn is implemented under the European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa with a total contribution of EUR 20,600,000. The GrEEn Project has 4 result areas: SNV handles Result 2 and 4 and UNCDF handles Result 1 and 3. Under Result 4, SNV works at providing incubation and acceleration services to entrepreneurs and business owners who are in the green and circular economy.
The 6-months training is carried out by SNV’s business hub partners in the two regions: Recycle Up! Ghana and Women’s Haven Africa in the Ashanti Region, and U-hub from the University of Mines and Technology-Tarkwa, Social Entrepreneurship (SE) Hub and Duapa Workspaces in the Western Region.
