MCE Bemoans Upsurge in Violent Crimes

One more person has been stabbed dead in the Asokore Mampong Municipal of the Ashanti Region a month after a juvenile identified as Osman was shot by suspected criminals under bizzare circumstances.

“Only yesterday, a son of Hon. Member of this House, member of Akurem, was stabbed to death by collegue”, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Alidu Seidu revealed.

“These killings committed by young people are becoming alarming in our communities”, the MCE bemoaned in his sectional address delivered to Assembly members in the municipality.

On the 27th of June, during the Eid celebrations, Osman was shot and wounded by a colleague at a popular Bonjour Total Filling Station, popular spot in there.

The Manhyia Police so far have arrested three persons in connection to the shooting of Osman Abdul Karim and are currently being process for court.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah told journalists the three suspects “confessed to have bought the pistol at a cost of Ghc 300 to commit the crime”.

The MCE however revealed the Assembly plans to ensure the Asawase District Police Command be upgraded to municipal status to help curb hooliganism in the municipality.
