Youth Inhume 3 Fishes For Ritual To Avert Calamity At Nyinahin

Youth and residents of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region on Sunday as part of the mothers day celebrations buried 3 dead fishes as a ritual to appease a river god and save the community from calamity.
The 3 fishes were covered in a white piece of cloth and buried like humans after a small libation was poured to river Nyinahin Amanoo by youth leaders in the area.
The three (3) fishes were found dead and washed at the bank of river Nyinahin Amaano when the youth in the community embarked on a massive clean up exercise in the Nyinahin township to mark this year’s mothers day celebrations.
Youth leader for the area, Kofi Owusu disclosed that they discovered the 3 dead fishes which they believe to be sacred, when they were clearing bushes, cleaning the river bank and clearing filth that had cloggeded the path of the river.
According to him, some calamities have recently befallen the community due to the fact that their chief Nana Amampene Boateng who has the responsibilty to lead them in performing such rituals for the river has failed to do so.
The Nyinahim river, he said symbolises the soul and power of the Nyinahin community, and as such needs to be kept clean.
Kofi Owusu also revealed that, fishes in the river are not meant  for food  but rather are a source of spiritual protection for the indigenes because they have spiritual ties with the souls of the natives in the community and ignoring such rituals, would mean death to about 5 people anytime a single fish dies.
When he was quized on why he has taken such responsibility upon himself, he explained that even though he is not mandated to carry out the ritual, the lackadaisical attitude of the chief and elders of the area compelled him to perform the task after some consultations and rituals with some well meaning elders of the town.
He intimated that the youth in the community are ready to contribute their quota to the development of the community but has no support  and appealed to all indigenes of Nyinahin in the diaspora to come back and support the development of the community.
