Asantehene honors Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai as “Jewel in the Crown” for women’s health advocacy

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has honoured the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals in Ghana Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, describing her as “Jewel in the Crown”.

This according to Asantehene is due to her resilience and determination to achieve women’s health advocacy in the world.

Asantehene said Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai has won her deep respect for her long years of propagating breast cancer education, a disease claiming the lives of women globally.
The King of Ashanti said this when Dr Wiafe Addai led a delegation to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Friday, May 30, 2025.

The visit was to update the King on the progress of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Cancer Centre of Excellence, located at Kwaso in the Ejisu municipality in the Ashanti region, a cancer Centre named after Asantehene.

The delegation included Prof Stephen Avery, a member of the Advisory Committee, Dr Opoku Adusei, former President of the Ghana Medical Association, Prof Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences KNUST, and traditional leaders.
They were led to the palace by Otumfuo Hiahene, Oheneba Prof Boachie-Adjei Woahene II.
Commitment to women’s health
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in his speech eulogizing Dr Wiafe Addai said “my granddaughter has shown a high level of resilience and determinations to make sure women are not only free from breast cancer, but their healthcare is improved.”
“To achieve her ambition, Dr Wiafe Addai established the Peace and Love Hospitals in Accra and Kumasi to advance women’s health courses, and it’s something I respect her, and will always support her. She is the Jewel in the Crown” the King honoured her.
Asantehenes support on the project
On the construction of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Cancer Centre of Excellence, the Asantehene committed to assisting Dr Wiafe Addai and her team for the completion of the project named after him.
“I am pledging my support in any possible way to enable the work done. Naming it after me is an honour but I need that after it has been completed,” he stated.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai expressed her gratitude for the Asantehene’s recognition and support, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in the fight against cancer diseases.
“With the support of the Asantehene and the collaboration of our partners, we can make a difference in the lives of many women,” she stated.
A collaborative effort
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Cancer Center of Excellence is cited on a 52 acre of land at Kwaso in the Ejisu municipality in the Ashanti region at a cost of $100 million.
The five-year project is being funded by Breast Care International (BCI), Peace and Love Hospitals, Global Health Catalyst, and the University of Pennsylvania in the USA.
