NSS Apologizes for Manhandling at ”Chaotic” registration
The national service secretariat (NSS) has apologized for the recorded incidents of police and Military manhandling of national service personnel at NSS registration centers in some parts of the country.
The registration process for this year’s national service personnel turned chaotic when some military personnel moved in to maintain order.
The presence of the military was necessitated by long disorganized queues of prospective personnel but unfortunately resulted in some confusion and an attempt to restore calm by the military led to a stampede.
Some of prospective service personnel told the media that the military assaulted them with belts and sticks in their attempt to maintain order.
But in press release signed by acting executive director of the secretariat, Hon. Ussif Mustapha, management of the secretariat expressed regret and apologized to all such personnel and the general public for the recorded incidents of congestion which led to manhandling.
”Management has put in place measure to ease the congestion and therefore wishes to appeal to all national service personnel to remain calm and go through the registration process smoothly”, the release said.
