The Black Stars of Ghana will engage the Uganda Cranes in matchday five of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
A very important game that may define the fate of the Black Stars is set to be staged at the Namboole Stadium early next month.
The chances of Ghana making it to Russia next year looks very slim as Egypt (currently on top of the table) have been touted hot favorites with the final two games to end the qualifiers.
The Ugandans who still have some hopes of qualifying will be looking forward to securing a very important victory against Ghana.
A 26 man squad was named on Monday evening by head coach Kwasi Appiah without the Ayew brothers.
Jordan and Andre Ayew missed Ghana’s last trip to Brazaville for the game that ended 5-1 for Ghana against Congo.
Andre is reported to have asked to be permitted out of the trip with injury whiles Jordan had complained to be ill and also missed the trip.
The action which looked to be one that was unreal was condemned by lovers of the Black stars and called for the two to be punished.
The two were dropped from the squad that will face Uganda next month. A decision that many thought was a disciplinary action taken by the technical handlers has been denied by the assistant coach of the team, Ibrahim Tanko.
Speaking to Osei Akoto Kanu OTEC FM’s Royal Sports, Tanko explained the reasons for the absence of the two as not a punishment from the bosses but a move to give other players the chance to justify themselves into the team.
“Oh no, you realise since coach (Kwasi Appiah) arrived, Wakasu, Agyemang Badu and Frank Acheampong were all not part of the team the last time we played, because we already know them,” he explained.
We have identified players who deserve a chance in their (Ayews) positions. So we did not drop them because we are punishing them” – Tanko added.
