Bantama ‘Concerned Group’ calls for relocation of ‘life threatening’ gas station

A group of concerned youth has expressed their views and opinions on the siting of ‘life threatening’ gas dispensing station in Bantama residential area.

According to the group, the location of Royal Gas Station, about 60 meters to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with boundaries with the Kumasi Cultural Center, Lebanon Club and Kejetia poses a potential explosion hazard of gas in an area which is the center of attraction of all people , saying the community “sits on a ticking time bomb.”

The Group appealed to the traditional authorities, the Regional Minister, KMA Boss , Ashanti Regional Police Commander and all others concerned to ensure that Royal Gas be moved from its current location with immediate effect” to avoid any future calamities or otherwise they advise themselves weeks to come if authorities fail to act.

The Spokesperson for the Group Micheal Kwabena Antwi the group said: “There is no doubt that the Gas Station has not been of benefit to the people of Bantama. It has offered easy access to gas for household chores”.

“However, recent gas explosions have prompted us to have a second thought”.

Mr. Micheal Kwabena Antwi  stressed on its awareness that relocation of the Gas dispensing Station would make residents move to far away distances in search of gas ” but we can confidently tell you that areas like ASAFO, TAFO etc don’t have gas stations within their communities but residents there cook with gas and so there is no cause for alarm”.

Other issues of concern of the Group also bothered around Insecurity, Encroachment of Lands Properties , Sanitation , Unwarranted Parking/Loading around the Goil Filling Station in the Bantama Community.
