Two Drivers’ Unions to hit streets tomorrow over fuel price

True Drivers Union and Concern Drivers Association are raising a red flag on Nana Addo’s led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over their inability to reduce fuel price in the country which is causing hardship on ordinary drivers across the country.
The two Drivers’ Union have therefore threatened to embark on a massive demonstration tomorrow to express their displeasure against the government for giving deaf ears to their concerns but the police seem to be preventing them from hitting the streets.
Speaking in an interview with OTEC NEWS Oduyefour Nana Asabre, spokesperson for the True Transport Union Yaw Barima said the government is using the police to stop them from demonstrating but warned that nothing can stop them from embarking on massive street protests tomorrow (Wednesday).
It would be recalled that the prices of petroleum products at the pumps were increased between 1 and 6 percent on September 22 this year.
‘’The police are trying to be smart on us but they should know that nothing can stop us’ he stressed.
According to the outspoken True Drivers Union spokesman, President Nana Akufo Addo is noted as a lawyer and human rights activist hence charge him to order the police allow them to demonstrate.
The group had earlier planned to stage a demonstration somewhere in October this year but was stopped by the police due to a statement the police said would not be able to provide security for them at that moment.
The Unions were again summoned by an Accra High Court to substantiate on their move to stage the demonstration against the government last month which after the court ruled in favor of the unions.
Yaw Barima, however, expressed worry over the bad treatment the current government has been giving drivers as the frequent increase of petroleum prices is causing them a lot in their business. He says the life has become unbearable for them as they spent all income on fuel.
He believes the government is capable of reducing petroleum products prices, therefore, sees no reason it has delayed till date.
Meanwhile, Yaw Barima has revealed that all is set for their demonstration tomorrow and vowed that they will meet the police boot for boot should they try to stop them.
